Cognizant Foundation donates towards curable Corneal Blindness
The Cognizant Foundation presented a Specular Microscope and a Corneal Collagen Cross Linking equipment costing Rs 17.85 lakhs to Sankara Eye Hospital Hospital, Pammal to strengthen the Kannoli-Vision Saver Project.

About Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal
Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal is a state-of-the-art Eye care facility that has been providing qualitative eye care to all sections of society for over two decades. To date the Hospital has performed nearly 200,000 surgeries and the beneficiaries have been from both rural and urban areas. The Hospital offers all sub-specialties in its portfolio of services. The Cornea Department of the Hospital has been providing Corneal transplant services but there was a need for specialized equipment to diagnose and treat corneal disorders for which Cognizant Foundation came forward to donate the same
At a well-attended function held at Sankara Eye Hospital on 16th April 2014 at 9:15 am, Sri N Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman - Cognizant and Director - Cognizant Foundation dedicated the equipment to the Hospital. In addition to Sri Lakshmi Narayanan, Cognizant Foundation was represented by Sri NR Krishnan IAS (Retd), Director of Cognizant Foundation and Sri S Madhavan, CEO of Cognizant Foundation. Retired Justice Rtn TN Vallinayagam, Former Judge of Karnataka and Madras High Court was a Special invitee who spoke at the function.
The function started with the traditional prayer and lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by the guests following which Wg Cdr V Shankar (Retd), Executive Director of Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introduction to the Kannoli-Vision Saver project and introduced the guests
The high point of the function was the dedication of the equipment to the Hospital by Sri Lakshmi Narayanan which was accepted by Dr Balamurugan, Cornea surgeon of the Hospital. Mr Lakshmi Narayanan appreciated the work being done by the Hospital in the cause of alleviating blindness and was happy that the Cognizant Foundation could participate in facilitating the efforts of the Hospital. Dr Balamurugan gave an acceptance speech where he brought out how the Hospital would now be able to provide services that could help diagnose corneal disorders in patients and provide timely treatment thus contributing to the Hospital’s mission of addressing curable blindness
