Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal is working towards freedom from curable blindness, for more than a decade, restoring the eye sight of the rural poor.
We appeal for generous support towards performing free cataract surgeries to the rural poor and enjoy “GIVING”. Master Suresh, Varadhapalayam, Chittoor District, AP Master.Suresh s/o Radhakrishnan aged 16 years is from Naganathapuram colony, Varadhapalayam, Chittoor district. He had cataract in both his eyes. Due to cataract, he could not study in the school and play with other children, Even his teachers in the school advised his parents to get his eyes operated. First, he underwent cataract surgery with IOL in Left Eye, which was in bad condition, at Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal. His vision has improved. He has passed the 10th std with comfort. Now he is studying 1st year Pre University. His family is very happy. He will undergo cataract surgery Right Eye during vacation. Like Suresh many are in need of quality eye care. We aim at raising, during this “Joy of Giving” programme, at least Rs.2 lakhs for performing free cataract surgery with IOL to many rural poor. Sankara Eye Hospital @ Pammal also participated in the World Glaucoma Day. On the eve of World Glaucoma Day, the hospital has conducted a special free eye screening camp on 12.03.2011. More than 350 persons were screened between 7th and 12th of March and 67 were identified having Glaucoma. The patients were advised for further treatment. Dr.D.Vijayashankari, Consultant of the hospital demonstrated a video presentation on the causes of Glaucoma etc and explained about the prevention & control of Glaucoma.
